A number of free software projects have mascots, such as the KDE dragon,
BSD daemon, Linux penguin, etc. It seemed appropriate that Window Maker
have one too. This wonderful mascot image was created for us by
Agnieszka Czajkowska,
a freelance artist that volunteered her time and skill (thanks Agnieszka!).
Here is what she has to say about it:
"The idea for a panda bear was an inspiration from the GNUstep logo. Pandas
are black and white and very cute. You can easily recognize it as the
Window Maker mascot because it has ears that look similar to the Window
Maker step logo."
Another reason we picked the panda is because they are an
endangered species. Soon
we hope to be able to provide t-shirts and other "WM wear", with the
proceeds being donated towards protecting these wonderful creatures. We
hope everyone likes our new mascot, which we now affectionately call
Amanda.
